Help Raul Run the NYC Marathon and Support the St. Nicholas Project
Each year Catholic Charities raises money toward the St. Nicholas Project, the signature volunteer and Junior Board event each Christmas season. One of our fundraising initiatives is through our yearly involvement in the TCS NYC Marathon. Our team of NYC Marathon runners raises funds to secure their slot through online appeals and friends and family.
This year we'd like to introduce you to Raul Asencion, a day laborer and Catholic Charities client who fled to New York City to escape poverty and violence in Venezuela. It has been Raul’s lifelong dream to run a marathon and Catholic Charities would like to help.
Due to his circumstances, Raul does not have a significant circle of family and friends to turn to. It would be terrific if our Junior Board and volunteer family would donate to support his dream.
Every dollar donated goes directly to the St. Nicholas Project – so we're supporting Raul AND the thousands of individuals served annually during shopping day! Please scroll down and click on a donation amount.
With sincere appreciation for all you do to support those whom we help,

Venezuelan Day Laborer Raul Asencion shares why he is running the NYC marathon.
I am 46 years old and from Venezuela. I have three children: Raul Alejandro and Carlos Raul who are 20 year old twins and Raul Enrique who is 19 years old. I am a Day Laborer and work in construction. I am a member of Obreros Unidos de Yonkers with the Day Laborer Program. Thanks to this program, I receive Occupational Safety and Health Administration certificate of 10 hours and 30 hours and now I have a permanent job in construction.
All my life, I have wanted to participate in a Marathon and I saw this opportunity to be part of the Catholic Charities team.
Catholic Charities will help make my dream come true and will allow me to contribute to the community through my participation to this organization that opens doors and helps many Day Laborers, vulnerable families, and the community. Catholic Charities helps us to empower ourselves and show solidarity by providing great services.
Your donation toward Catholic Charities and the NYC Marathon will go toward the St. Nicholas Project, which provides warm clothing to thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers each winter.
Raul will run the NYC Marathon on Sunday, November 3, 2019.
He hopes to raise $3000 by running the marathon.
