2025 CCCS Refugee Resettlement Interpreters
Catholic Charities Community Services' Immigration Division works to ensure all new arrivals to our country are properly supported. The Refugee Resettlement Intrepretation Program supports refugees as they start new lives in our community and recognize the critical role that language plays in facilitating their integration and ensuring their needs are met effectively.
We are establishing a team of dedicated volunteer interpreters who can help bridge the language gap and provide vital support during crucial interactions such as appointments with case managers, accompaniments to offices across the city, and phone calls with health insurance providers.
As a volunteer, you will:
- Use your language skills to ensure refugees can communicate their needs.
- Gain valuable experience in interpretation and cross-cultural communication.
- Become part of a supportive network of like-minded individuals committed to humanitarian causes.
Skills:
- Must be fluent in a language other than English. We are specifically looking for speakers of Haitian Creole, French, Ukrainian, Russian, Dari (Persian), Pashto, Pulaar (Fulani), and Arabic.
- Must either have access to a personal computer with working audio and video, OR be able to interpret at our offices in downtown Manhattan.
- Must have or have had an address in the United States, so that we are able to process your background check.
Location & Schedule:
Upon expressing interest below, a schedule will be determined with each volunteer and point of contact. There are ongoing needs for both virtual interpeters and in-person interpreters.
Volunteers are needed primarily during working hours, Monday-Friday between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
