Immigration Court Helpdesk: Screeners IN PERSON-SPANISH SPEAKERS
If you do not have immigration legal experience, please make sure you have attended a training in the past or have volunteered previously with this program. If you have not attended a training or event in the past, please watch this webinar before you sign up Dedicated and personable volunteers are needed for information gathering and legal screenings for people with hearings at Immigration Court. You will meet with prospective clients, gather information about their journey to the United States, their life histories, and work with Catholic Charities attorneys to inform immigrants about their rights and legal options. Consistent with public health officials’ guidance, the Immigration Court has implemented practices to help to protect all people working in and visiting EOIR spaces. Face coverings may be required in immigration court spaces, including the courtroom. Social distancing practices are in place. Maintaining a distance of six feet from those with whom you do not live is required. Waiting times to enter the building, an elevator, and EOIR space may be significantly longer than usual or expected.
